“…he made the iron float.” – 2nd Kings 6:6 (NKJV)
Scripture says, ‘…the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. Therefore he said, “Pick it up yourself.” So he reached out his hand and took it.’ (2nd Kings 6:6-7 – NKJV).
Elisha, the prophet of God, lived and worked among the people and the prophets, which was a custom. The communities were fairly mobile and could relocate to find room whenever the home or neighbourhood became crowded.
As one of the sons of the prophets was cutting a beam, the axe head fell into the water and disappeared. He cried out in trepidation, “…Alas, master! For it was borrowed.” (2nd Kings 6:5 – NKJV).
In biblical times, when you borrowed something from someone and lost or damaged it, one was required to make restitution. This would have been harsh on the already financially challenged son of the prophet. Elisha then showed him how to put one’s trust in a big God. It requires great faith and uncommon understanding.
Elisha, by the grace of God, caused the iron ax head to float by tossing in a piece of a stick, the opposite of the lost item. Friends, God’s ways are not our ways. We all know an axe head is something heavy, and it cannot float in the natural. However, the power of God has no limitations! Do not expect God to work according to your logical mind – His ways are mysterious and above our earthly knowledge. We only need to trust in Him, and He can deliver us out of all troubles.
Ephesians 3:20 (KJV) says, “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”
Yes, only believe when you pray and allow God’s work to work in you!
